April Shower’s Prevention
Updated: Apr 9, 2020
With today being the 1st of April you may have been hoping for some sun and warm weather. Instead you were probably fooled with temperatures below 40 resulting in your normal winter attire. However, this month never fails, hot/cold to bring in its April showers. With this being said it is vital to keep a close eye on your plumbing and if a repair is needed please do so. When it comes to rain, waiting for a major plumbing repair will be extremely costly. Not only will the pipe/fixture need repair but also your home itself will be impacted.

Here are a few things to check/keep a close eye on during April Showers.
1)Gutter/Storm Drain: most worry about about their storm drain and gutter only during the fall due to leaves. However, it is vital to get your gutter/storm drain cleaned regularly. Excess dirt/debris, twigs and small leaves make their way in and accumulate quickly and stick within the walls creating a narrow opening. This causes rain water to overflow creating flooding. 2)Sump pump: make sure your sump pump is functioning at 100%. Ground water can easily rise through foundation cracks. In the event flooding occurs in your basement or crawl space, the sump pump will collect all of the water and redirect away from your home. 3)Check Valve: If your property is in a flood zone area and are on a city sewer and water system, you may want to install a back water check valve. This helps prevent sewer back ups from occurring from your municipal sewer and maintenance of 2 years to keep it in tip top shape.
As we all know April showers bring May flowers, but don’t let it distract you from keeping your plumbing and home safe.
