Do’s and Dont’s for your Garbage Disposal
Majority of sinks are now being installed with garbage disposals. As you may know they are a huge help in the kitchen, but can sometimes be a hassle; especially if you are not sure what exactly you can discard down the drain. Well have no fear Empire is here to explain. The primary use of the garbage disposal is to shred food waste into extremely small pieces to avoid clogged pipes. It is important to always run cold water down your disposal. This will solidify grease and oil so it can be ground up.
The items that CAN BE placed down the disposal are egg shells, meat scraps, small bones, fruit and vegetable rinds. When disposing these items make sure they are not in large chunks or amounts. The items you CANNOT place into the disposal are fruit pits, large bones, shrimp shells, banana peels, nuts, peanut butter, large amounts of grease, corn husks, onion skins, potato peels, pasta/rice, cigarette butts, and broken glass. Best rule of thumb is if it is not biodegradable do not throw it down your garbage disposal. Contact Empire Water Main & Sewer (718)715-4862 !
