Wet Tap Connection
Updated: Jul 1, 2019
A wet tap connection is when a connection is made into a public/NYC water main for a water service installation. This type of connection is typically used for an individual property. In the case that a wet tap connection is needed only DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) field forces are allowed to install the tap since specialized equipment and tools are required. The tap itself ranges in size from 3/4” to 2” and usually takes about 20 minutes for installation. The main reasons as to why you would have a wet tap installed or replaced is as followed: 1. The existing tap connection is leaking
2. A water main is being installed for a brand new home/building 3. If your water main is leaking and the current tap is a “driven tap”. This tap is no longer legal to use in the 5 boroughs. 4. If you are increasing the size of the wet tap to properly supply the required amount of pressure and volume of water to your property.
